Our conservation plan is a record of resource use decisions we have made with help from the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). It serves as a record of our conservation decisions and provides a way to track our progress of carrying them out. Our plan helps us to know which conservation practices are in place, and which practices are still needed. Our conservation plan is meant to be actively used and updated. It is a working document that can change as our operation changes: install the conservation practices, enhancements, and activities according to the implementation requirements, designs, construction plans, or other documents that facilitate meeting the applicable NRCS technical criteria.
1. Conservation Pasture and Hay Planting (512)
CRITERIA:
-Plant a perennial white Clover (Regal Ladino, White Dutch, etc.) into existing stand of perennial grass to improve forage resources. -Do not plant into weedy stands. -Do not plant into stands that have been treated with a soil residual herbicide such as picloram within the last 6 months. -Planting with a no-till drill is recommended. -Calibrate drill or spreader and plant seed within the recommended dates, seeding rate, and depth. -Pastures should be grazed closely before planting cover. -Do not plant into a very dense stand of Fescue, or Clover will not establish. -Apply lime and fertilizer according to soil test recommendations from approved organic sources. -Inoculate seed or adjust rate of coated, pre-inoculated seed.
Seeding rates and methods shall be adequate to accomplish the planned purpose: 7 acres on field 3 during October, 2024.
